Can put some vanilla beans instead of pandan. Replace sago with tapioca pearls, the small ones which you can find in any Philippines, Vietnamese or Chinese Asian grocery stores. Sometimes they come in different colors.

How about vanilla essence (ie, man-made flavouring!!!)? Quite similar lor. About sago… wah, no subsitute for that. Got wangi, no texture.

Do you have any Bulk Barns in your area?? They usually carry that. Also at Sobey’s you have instant tapioca in little boxes ( Dont cook it that long and soak in ice water right away)
Also those gunky looking pink things– make a very strong solution of corn starch or tapioca starch and water.. cook slowly over low flame until transparent, pour into shallow pan. When cool cut into diamond shapes. My mum also used beans, bananas and the purple yams.
Vanilla will throw the flavor totally off.. its better not to have it at all.

    Hey..Diva Mom,
    I will try that.. :)

    Hey.. Keona,
Nope.. no bulk barns in yarmouth.. :(
Instant Tapioca.. hmmm.. good.. i will go search for it. :)
Thanks for all the tips.. :)
