Nice Weather

Wednesday, June 8th, 2005
Today was by far the nicest day/weather… ever since know when..!!!! 19 degree celsius…!!
Yes.. yes.. for those in Asia.. and Mauritius.. like Stella.. would think.. i’m crazy.. to think that 19 degree is warm/hot but if you have been in Yarmouth as long as I have.. and gone thru’ many winters.. like I have.. you would know what i mean.
I think i am really canadianised… hahahhaha!! I didn’t even need a sweater this afternoon.

5 yrs ago.. when we were in Hong Kong … Mr T & I .. that is.. i was bundling up.. while he was in shorts and t-shirt. At that time.. i thought to myself.. what a crazy .. Ang Moh!!!! and i bet alot of ppl in Hong Kong thought the same way too. But Mr T kept saying.. the weather was beautiful..!! coz’ we just came from Bangkok.. and it was a sweltering heat of 30 degree Celcius there… and yours truly didn’t have sweat a drop .. while MrT was raining sweat .. thru’ his light t-shirt that he was wearing.. when we were visiting the temples.

Anyhow the weather was so nice.. we brought Chloe to the playground .. and met some friends and their children there. We had a great time ..!! so refreshing to be out.. not having to bundle up.

I hope the weather stays this way.. for the rest of the time… it would be great for us.. and business.

Shortage of Doctors

Wednesday, June 8th, 2005
I read on Vanguard (local papers) that another doctor/surgeon has closed its practice and leaving town. This is quite devastating actually… for there are already a huge shortage of doctors in this town.

When i was pregnant with Chloe in 2003, there was only one gynae available. In fact i was quite worried for Dr Madhvani coz’ he had to work like 5 days a week.. and on call .. meaning a 24hrs shift..! Sure we got reinforcement from our neighbouring doctors and i am forever grateful to them.. for Chloe was delivered by Dr Macbeth from Kentville.. and i think he is English if i am not wrong… from England from his accent (i did my university years in UK).

One thing i miss alot of Singapore (beside the food).. is getting to see your family doctor within 15mins and the efficiency of the hospital back home. And the many hospitals available in Singapore.. which is the size of Yarmouth County. Sure we have a population of like 4 million in singapore.. and still growing .. but STILL.. !! the healthcare here in Yarmouth is very much to be desired.

Back home we have the Alexandra Hospital, General Hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Kerdang Kerbau Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital, Mount Alvernia Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Hospital, NUH Hospital, Changi General Hospital, National Health Centers, Polyclinic, National Eye Center, National Cancer Center, National Heart Center and National Dental Center. Not forgetting the 100s of private pratices in housing areas and offices in town and rural areas.
In the western cluster in Singapore there are 4 hospitals, 2 National health care center, 9 polyclinics.
In the Eastern Cluster in Singapore there are 3 hospitals, 4 National Health Care Center and 7 polyclinics.
So you tell me.. how can i not miss the healthcare in Singapore..???? Wherelse now.. we only have one here in Yarmouth and a 45mins drive to visit our family doctor and the many hours of waiting to see any doctor .. sometimes it takes as much as 6 hrs to see one. (family doctors are quicker but still a wait of an hour or so).
I sincerely hope that Yarmouth/local authorities find a permanent solution .. to the healthcare situation here (not that they are not trying i assure you) .. not for me.. or my family alone.. but for every individual living in Yarmouth. We definitely need more than 1 surgeon for emergency purposes.

Sales Up

Wednesday, June 8th, 2005
Computer sales has been up at our store of late. Jon sold 3 computers yesterday and Jenn 2 last week.
Alot of computer repairs and upgrades too. It almost seems like ppl are getting to know that we ACTUALLY fix computers… hhahaha!! besides selling them.

Game cards has been selling like hot cakes since we got our new shipment in the day before.

Fireworks are selling good this time of the year.. because the weather is getting warmer. Unfortunately, it is illegal here to sell fire-crackers like the ones we have back in Asia. But fireworks is legal, so alot of young adults .. are buying them for their BBQ and camping and stuff that they do outdoors.

Everyone is back at work.. after their little bout of flu/cold/infections … so Mr T & I have got some free time on hand. Mexico/Cacun here we come… ;) hehe!! just kidding..!!
