The Passing of a Customer

Friday, August 24th, 2007

A recent customer of ours.. just passed away on Sunday. I said recent.. because he and his wife.. actually just became our customer a few months ago. It is truly sad .. that he left due to cancer so quickly and suddenly.

In fact .. we never expected it.. because when he came back from his surgery in Halifax.. he was still very gung-ho.. and full of life. And knowing him.. he was one good fella. Leaving behind his wife now… i donch know what is gonna happen to her. As much as we are sympathetic.. i wonder how we can help her in the future. She was quite dependent on her husband while he was alive. But God rest your soul .. Larry..!

The Host

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Have you been invited lately to a housewarming, BBQ or for us here.. mostly long weekends get together with family and friends. Do you believe in giving/bringing a gift for your host..?? Are you like me.. and like most folks..?? always bringing a bottle of wine…??

Gift for the host need not be expensive.. and you can buy gifts .. that are within your budget.. and appealing.  You may consider these for the host in the future, gifts that I’ve bought before besides wine.

1.    Candles or candle holders

2.    Soap.  Not bath soap.. but hand soap.

3.    Sampler packages are good too, depending on what your host loves, you can choose from jam packages, tea packages, or seasoning packages.

4.    Potted plants.  Donch give bouquet of flowers ya..!  I hate receiving bouquet of flowers… but with potted plants.. they last for a long time.

5.    Music CDs  .. especially if you know what your host loves in the music scene.

The above are what i would love to get if i am the host.  I have 5 more things I would love to receive ..  but first tell me .. what you would consider as good gifts .. for the host. Leave a comment.. so i can compile it..  :)

From Fantasy To Crime

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

Just the other day.. i was writing about not being a fan of Harry Potter’s books. And today I read that Rowling the 41 yrs old author.. who is way richer than I .. and I’m older..!! *sob* .. is spotted in cafes writing her new novel on crime.

Can you imagine for someone who went out writing in cafes .. just to save on heating bills.. (I know all about it.. because last year.. we all went to the store.. so we donch have 2 heating bills right high.. to pay .. during the winter) and is now has a worth of US1 billion..!! I donch think Ted Murphy from PPP is even near it yet… well to be fair.. not very many ppl is near it. Not me .. anyways.

I donch know if i am gonna read her crime novels yet.. because i’m very much a girly kinda gal. But i’ll start with the very first Harry Porter soon.. if i can find any cheaply here.

Immigration Turnaround

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Isn’t it funny that one can just go back to the United States and come right back to Canada.. and have their permit chopped for another year just because you are American Citizen..??

Yup.. this was exactly what happened to one of our customer.. who married her husband whom she had met online. He was already in Canada for a good 1 yr.. and knowing that his visitor pass is gonna expired.. they drove to Maine and turned right back after going thru’ the American custom.

And you know what.. they had absolutely no problems.. when coming thru’ the Canadian custom.. !!!! Unbelievable..!!  I’m a little perturbed.. because 6 yrs ago.. i was in the same situation.. and yer know what.. they turned me around.. and wouldn’t let me go thru’ till the next morning..!!  Why hor..?? is it because i’m not from the States..??  and a singaporean..??

Online University

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Looking to upgrade oneself is a definite must for everyone. My grandmother used to say, once you stop wanting to learn more.. and upgrade.. that is where you get redundant. But how does one go about upgrading oneself..?? Being a busy mom and a owner by association to my spouse’s business, I wouldn’t be able to attend your regular open university, so an online university would be what i would be looking into.

An online university that was developed for more than 14 yrs, must be doing something right. Afteall, us being in business for 8 yrs this August, is a great achievement by my standards. This university offers all degree programs completely online, thus giving the student the flexi hours to fit their education around their work and family commitment, just the way i like it. With an open enrollment and a self paced program, one need not change their schedule to fit the program just to attend a class or take a test.

A 24 hours access to your course assignment, online forums to help you and web lectures, interactive software and audio and visual examples, are all thought out carefully for the students at Columbia Southern University, to help the students succeed in their learning experience.

You want a rewarding future, you want to upgrade, now is the time.

Trust the Quebec

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Quebec is part of Canada .. if you donch know by now. And trust the french..! they are now translating all the video games to be sold in Quebec to FRENCH..!!

“The Quebec government is close to finalizing a deal with the Entertainment Software Association of Canada to have all games sold in Quebec translated into French, the Canadian Press has learned. “

With added costs.. i wonder how many games they are going to get..?? from the distributors. A question of goodwill they said..?? Hmmm.. i doubt..!

Wild About Harry

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Are you a Potter fan..?? I’m not ..! i only watched one of the very first movie .. and the rest.. i just couldn’t really be bothered. I guess maybe .. my brat would love it .. when she is older.

It’s ironic isn’t it.. that i’m not watching Harry Potter.. ?? Afterall.. i’m an owner by association to a video store. At midnight on July 21, Harry Potter novels released the seventh and last book in the mega-popular series. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows marks the end of one of the biggest publishing phenomena in recent times.

Maybe, I should start reading the book instead. I might like it eh..?? Afterall, the picture of a German boy reading eagerly in Halle, Germany kinda puts me to shame.. for not doing any good reading of late.

Whirpool Ovens

Friday, August 17th, 2007

I never had a chance to use ovens till i came to Canada. My mom was an old-fashioned cook.. and didn’t baked in a real oven. She uses a small compact oven for all her baking. Well .. not that she bakes alot then.. except for her pineapple tarts during Chinese New Year.

I bought our first oven when we bought our own home about 4 yrs ago, and of course being quite blur .. we didn’t know what to choose, meaning the brand. But Whirlpool Ovens have had been well known for ages now.. as far as i can remember. But now.. i don’t even have to leave the comforts of my home to compare prices and to search from store to store, to find electric appliances like my mom used to do many years ago. Be a wise shopper..! I wouldn’t do it any other way.

See I told you ..!

The Gods Must Be Really Angry..! Hurricane Dean churns through the Caribbean !

Yuks..!! what’s going on..!! here i am complaining about a little thunderstorm here at home.. and worrying about my in-law’s crops .. in the garden.

“Hurricane Dean pounded the eastern Caribbean islands of St. Lucia and Martinique Friday and was expected to gain strength as it moves westward. Passing between the two islands, the hurricane caused flooding, downed trees, ripped off roofs and knocked out power. The storm packed winds of 160 km/h, with stronger gusts.”

Tropical storm warnings continues for U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and many other Caribbean islands, including Grenada, St. Kitts, St. Maarten and the British Virgin Islands.

Lets pray for safety .. for all everyone in that region.

The Gods Must Be Angry

Friday, August 17th, 2007

We had a thunder storm last nite or rather overnite. It started around 3am here in Y-Town. But it looks like there were reports of power outages in the Halifax area and along Nova Scotia’s south shore after a powerful thunder storm overnight. We were lucky, we weren’t affected by the outages and we’ve never been left in the cold either during winter.

But this time, heavy rain swept up the coast dropping up to 40 millimetres in some places. With everything going on around the world.. in Hawaii and even our dear friend Simple American had said.. they were preparing for a storm the other day.

So I guess the Gods Must Be Angry eh..??
