An Intriguing Tale Of Being An Owner

Woohoo..! i had dim sum today..!! but of course nothing compared to the ones in Asia lah…!! but still beggars can’t be choosers.. so i IS the happy..!!

We’ve arrived after 5hrs of drive.  Not what had totally planned.. but we’ve eaten some tempura udon and inari sushi .. so far.  Bought alot of things for chloe.. after shopping for 3hrs at Halifax Shopping Center… and the hotel’s recept was great.. we upgraded the room for another 8 bucks… for a suite.  And it is damn hard to work on a laptop..  without a mouse.. and too long finger nails.

Dumping Day is such a big thing here in Nova Scotia.. that schools are out on Monday because of it. And nope..i’m not even kidding about it.

Approximately, 1700 vessels will leave the wharves from Digby county to Halifax on what we call the dumping day. Next Monday, fishing officially starts. More than 548,000 lobster traps will be set in waters between Cole Harbour and Digby. Fishersmen are nervous this year because of the strong Canadian dollars.. as most of their lobsters are shipped to US.

Here’s wishing all those fishermen a safe journey and an abundant catch.

If you really want to get rested and rejuvenate, cruises are the best vacations one can take.
Firstly, you get away from everything.. and everyone.. and you are totally relax.. because you are right in the middle of nowhere.. and no one. You can do as much communicating with the land people or do nothing.. and blame it on poor communication system on the cruise.

Furthermore, cruises are an all inclusive trip, so you need not worry about extra expenditures.. and spending extras for food and drinks. There are many cheap cruise deal, you can choose from and those last minute deals are to die for. Take a cruise.. take a REAL vacation.

Owning a video store, means carrying candies and pop as well, for the customers who rents video from us. Alot of people do ask for popcorns too.. but we only have those that you can microwave. Unfortunately, we are not able to get them often enough to keep up with the demands.. so we’ve decided to invest in some popcorn machines, which to my surprised is not that expensive at all. Well.. one has gotta do what you’ve gotta do… to keep the customer/s happy.

Nothing really compares to our Asian hospitality when it comes to the service industries back home. And having been in the hotel industry for so long, I can boldly say .. i know it all. I was making reservations for our trip to the city, tried to get the best hotel rates… and started chatting with a few reservations people.

The Delta Barrington folks are the best..! And so is the Manager at the Econolodge. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the guy in reservations by the “Mark” from Future Inn. No way was he gonna negotiate with me… nor was he worried that his tone would offend me. His rate was final..! and that was it… a matter-of-factly. Even though I kept saying.. “donch you want to do my business..??, we will be your very regular customers.. in the future.” Nope..! no way..! he hung up on me..without saying “goodbye..have a nice day”

I checked the weather.. and it’s still going good..!! woohoo..!!! that only means one thing eh..?? going to the CITY..!! WOOHOO..!! DHAMRA SUSHI and DIM SUM here i come..!!

This is our first mini vacation.. after so many years. And no worries.. about the store.. and staffing..! No morning employee..?? no worries.. we still survived.. and it has been almost a year..!!

“finger” at you know who..! muahahhahha!!!

I donch know if you all remember Gary.. our long time customer turned friend… who is our constant supporter for the store.. and the person who constantly contributes to my brat’s college fund since she was born.

Yes… Gary is ill..and is up in Halifax hospital right now. Looks like he is gonna be there for a week. So this weekend.. if we do go up to the city.. we will be visiting Gary in the hospital.. hopefully he will be well enough to come home soon. I know for sure.. chloe will miss him alot.

If you have a little time.. please say a little prayer for Gary.. and wish him speedy recovery.

Well.. i called immigration again ..yesterday.. to see if the application is over and done with, so that i can MAKE PLANS..!!! to go home for a holiday..!!!! and take care of my passport and stuff. But because I am applying for Citizenship.. i am trying not to move around too much.. in case .. they need to reach me.

So what they said..?? to call back in January 2008.. and no need to disturb them every 2 weeks.. like what the agent from 3 weeks ago said. JOY..!!!

If you are wondering.. why my Christmas decor isn’t up yet.. it’s just because I am acting like a defiant child. Why you asked..?? Well.. last year.. they make us put up our Christmas decor in a big hurry .. because they want the stores to be lighted up for the Christmas parade.. but only judged the windows.. weeks.. after the parade..! So in the pretense or in the name.. of judging for the best windows.. they sure made us panic then.

On top of everything.. there wasn’t even a mentioned about our window.. which i thought was perfectly GREAT..!

So this year..!! i am acting up.. like spoilt brat.. and NOT put up anything till AFTER the parade..!! Not gonna rush myself.. like we did last year..! NO WAY.. SIREEE..!!

Owning a small business, we all know about trying to maximize your sales and improve performance in all aspect of one’s business. It’s a tough competition .. and to stay on top of your competitors… one has be on top of the day to day running of your business and by using business performance management it will make your business more effective and work better with all your planning.  Some price to pay if you know what i mean.

We had someone come in with a computer that needed “looking” at .. because it wasn’t working properly. He explained the problem.. and left the computer at our store. PB worked on it.. and basically .. after alot of testing.. and messing around with it, declared that the hard drive is screwed.

Customer called today.. and PB told him his options.. and guess what he said..??? Labour is at $30 (damn cheap and cheapest in town), yet.. customer told PB .. that he doesn’t have any money for it.. till next Friday. *slap forehead*

So why the hell did he bring his computer in for repair..?? if he didn’t have the money for it..?? does it make sense to you ..??? does he think we are a charitable organization..?? And yes.. he expects to take his puter back.. and pay us.. when he gets the money.. ! does it make sense to you ..??

We need insurance for the many things we owned in our lives. The store needs insurance.. the contents in the store needs insurance. We need insurance for our home and its contents.. and health insurance and not forgetting our car needs insurance as well… and the employees need insurance as well. So you can see where i am coming from when i say.. i need the best rate for a term life insurance quote. It would certainly help if we get the best quotes for the same coverage.

We have had our store opened from 12pm – 9.30pm for almost a year now. Previously, we always open from 10am – 9.30pm, but since we had enough of “great” employees, we then decided to do it on our own.

This morning.. i woke up at 11am.. and had my breakfast and all.. and at 11.50am.. i started cooking dinner for my brat. Yes..! 11.50am.. when we had to be at work at noon..! Crazy or not..?? I had it in my head.. that we only needed to be at work at 1pm. Muahahahha!! yet.. PB can offer to cook the macaroni for me.. instead of stopping me.. muahahhaha!! and a few mins later.. i realized .. i must be going crazy. .muahahah!! at 11.58am.. to be exact.
