An Intriguing Tale Of Being An Owner

The cops were in a few days ago, because someone had sold us some stolen stuff again..!!!!! yes. .yet again..!! this time round.. we are losing like cash $95 .. sure it is not alot.. but if you know me.. you will know how thrifty i am.. i won’t even allow PB to buy new toys.. unless they are absolutely necessary. So losing $95 .. is a big deal to me. Like I said.. we are just trying so hard to make an honest living.. yet when the cops come..they just take the stuff.. and donch even give us a restitution form for it. In the 8 yrs that we’ve been in business.. we only recovered $30 from restitution. JOY of this town.. and the JOYS of owning your own business.

It was a total disaster for me at the store today. From the time i went into the store.. and after receiving an email.. from an advertiser that I am working for, everything went downhill. It affected me so much.. i honestly cannot remember who came into our store today. I was totally out of it… just because of an email.

I’m just glad that the man didn’t shake or bitch slap me .. to wake me up from my zombie state. It was not until about 7 pm.. that i recovered after receiving a more positive email from the advertiser .. and then .. i sobbed so hard.. because i not only neglected the store.. but my child (she had a dental appt, which I am not happy about), I am awfully ashamed of myself.. truth be told. Heavy hearted I am.. as I write this.

We have some geniuses running this town. On the local papers yesterday.. there was a small article printed.. that said.

“Town Council permits flashing signs”

Yes.. there are no flashing signs or lights .. unless during Christmas, else you cannot light up your store.. not like in Japan, Hong Kong, China, USA .. or anywheres in the world…!! NO FLASHING SIGNS..!! why..?? because they said.. it would distract the drivers.. and would cause an accident.

And there they go on to say.. or report.. the town council said.. “let there be lights” ! Oh my GOD..!!! how cheesy and corny is that..!! Each business is still only allowed one lighted sign up. I donch know if the town councils are saying the ppl are stupid here..?? or are they the stupid ones..?? to think that lighted signs can cause accidents..?? The town councils better not go to Singapore.. or Hong Kong or anywheres… coz’ they might get into an accident.. just by walking on the roads.

The weather was so bad yesterday.. the brat and I didn’t go into the store.. but of course PB had to go in .. because we get very busy .. during bad weather. Go figure..! ppl just wants to rush in and get a movie or two..or rent a game or two.. so if they are snowed in.. they got something to do. Afterall, there isn’t very much going on in this little town of ours.. no decent bars.. or anything exciting happening.

We haven’t decided on the new store yet.. because .. i couldn’t get to see it during daylight.. since the weather had been bad.. and we had other obligations.. during the weekend. With the babysitter sick.. and all.. we didn’t get a breather since Friday. But before we agree on anything. .on the new store.. i’m gonna check out the feng shui first.. and not miss out on anything this time. I just couldn’t believed that i could have missed out such a huge arrow pointing at our store.. for so long. I must be blinded by the ghost.

I’m sure by now you all know we are moving to a new store .. but have yet to decide which one to pick. Starrs Road.. or remain on Main Street…?? Whatever we choose, it is also time for us to think of how we want to furnish our store, there isn’t much furniture stores in our town, but one thing for sure.. the visit to the dentist today.. sure inspired me on how what theme i would like the store to look like.

One had his potato girlfriend in town since a few months ago.. and we heard . .Ms Selfish got engaged last Christmas.. !! woohoo..!! Congrats to both our ex-employees.. i’m sure dracula boy deserves potato gal.. and Ms Selfish deserves her other half. I’m pretty happy for them.. because maybe.. for once they will be really happy .. and live life to its fullest.

It is really bizarre that such a small town like ours.. can received as much as 131 calls every 2 weeks. I cannot help but wonder .. what would happened if they had a population of 4 million .. like we have back home. Of the 131 calls.. there were seven 911 hang-ups, three residential break and enters, four Mental Health Act investigations, six drunk in public place, seven assaults, four shoplifting, 12 theft under $5,000, 10 mischief/vandalism, 14 false alarms, five traffic collisions, five causing a disturbance, one fraud and seven other Criminal Code. Seriously .. i salute the ppl in this town.

It was a sad weekend.. for all of us here.. in Nova Scotia.. or even the whole of Canada. Even though New Brunswick is so far away from us here in Yarmouth, I cannot help but feel my heart tightened when i think of what a tragic accident .. this was.

The impact was so great.. the cops who arrived at the scene couldn’t do anything. The students ranges from 15 – 18 yrs old. . and were at their best times of their life. God rest their soul.

I really do.. by our landlord..! i know that the rent at the new store.. cannot be what he quoted PB.. and the reason why i said that .. was when we had wanted to get outta the lease before its due time, he had told PB that under no circumstances can be backed outta our lease.. unless we went bankrupt.. even then we had to pay 3 months rent. Yup..!! but then how did the competition .. get outta his lease.. i had asked him a few days ago, and all he said.. was they went bankrupt..!!

Then how come.. we need to pay 3 months extra.. if we had gone bankrupt..?? Doesn’t make sense to me at all.. does it to you ..?? so i am getting this feel that we are being bullied..!

The landlord was just in to give us the keys to see the new place .. but he wouldn’t budge when it comes to the rent. Nope.. no way .. he said.. he was gonna lower the rent.. not even when i suggested till the end of the year.. and then raised it.

Sometimes.. i wonder why we are doing this..! *sigh* .. no off days.. no rest.. and even when we had plenty of employees.. we still worked just as hard. And not like we make tons of money.. or anything..! Gotta really sit down and do some number crunching.

I am very much into .. bettering oneself at anytime because I am that type of person who needs motivation and alot of it. I strive better with inspirational talks and knowing that someone else did it too.

I donch know if it is this town.. or is it just me..?? Was in the store for abit.. tonite.. and a teenager was renting 2 games. I went over to the cashier’s counter.. to see what account he was on.. when i saw that the account had the name of the person’s wife as his approved renter. Obviously this account did not belong to him.. for he was too young .. to have a wife.. and then only another name was on this account.. and that was a girl’s name.. so that alerted me.. straightaway.. that he is definitely not the owner of the account, although he could give the name of the account owner.

When i told him.. he is not the account owner.. he insisted that his name was the same as his father’s… in which of course .. i’m sure it is. I called his mom up. .over the phone to ask for permission for him to rent under his parent’s account.. but his mom said “NO” just flat “NO” .. but before even calling.. i knew the kid must be trouble. .else .. usually parents do put all their kid’s name on the account for convenience sake. Luckily, I was around. .and sported it immediately, else we would risk losing 2 PS2 games again. *sigh* .. this business is HARD..!

Therefore, we’ve had many request from tourist for laptop rental when the need arises for them to work during their holiday. Yup. . it rained the whole day today..!! Had anticipated really nasty weather. .but it only rained . . and a little of thunder and lightning. Every single customer that came into our store today was protesting.. that it should be snowing and not raining. But given a choice i want rain more than snow.. ! snow can get really nasty..!

During my great grandparents time, the only thing they believed in .. in terms of value .. during the world war II were collectibles like silver dollar. It is really funny how even till the day they die, they hang on to them.
