Does It Works..??

I find it amusing.. everytime a customer comes into our store.. and buy a second hand machine.. be it a computer.. or a gamecube system.. or a xbox 360 or even a PS2 system… they asked us this question. “Does it works..??”

Hmmmmm….??!!?? why would we be selling you something that doesn’t work..??? And of course we have those customer/s that want the machine to be flawless and new.. but yet refuses to pay for new price .. and yet want us to warranty it like new. *slap forehead*. So are you one of those customers..??

Should I or Shouldn’t I..?

You know with our kinda business we see alot of students walking into our store all the time. Some actually become friends.. after some time..and others oh well.. they come in often.. but is very shy. Those that is very shy .. seems to have bad acne problems, maybe that’s the main reason why they are so shy..?? I want to tell them about natural acne treatments but don’t really want to embarrass these kids or offend their parents, so i am wondering how i can approached them.. without upsetting anyone..?? Anyone got any suggestions..? afterall, i don’t wanna lose their business eh..?

New Mayor For This Town..??

Wow..!! really ..?? someone is challenging the current Mayor of Y-Town..??? Looks like it is true.. eh..! Phil Mooney (sounds very familiar), a former downtown merchant has announced that he is running against Charles Crosby the present Mayor of this town who has been in office for the last 20 yrs.

What i think..?? it’s high time we see some new blood in this town. It can’t be any worst eh..?? Mooney had said that he was going to tackle tourism, transportation, taxes, safe and clean streets if he gets elected. I look forward to see his campaign website .. on this coming Friday.

Defunct

Not the business.. but this town. Jakes a regular pizza place .. opened for many years.. and was taken over by new owners. Now no longer operating due to various reasons.. but why isn’t the town helping folks like that..?? instead of spending money on those that already have money..?? like the Canadian Tire ppl who wants the town’s money for building some canopied stalls for the Organic market.  And it looks like they are getting the money too..!  I want some money too.. for my business..! so who am i to go to..??  I’m sure previous owners of Jakes wants some money too..!!

A Bistro?

I’ve always picture myself.. having a small bistro and some wireless connection for our customers to work on their computer. I don’t want those conventional furniture, I want the bistro to have teak furniture, so that the customer/s can go outdoors and enjoy the sun and the breeze. I really hope that my dream will come true one day.. for i love working in a bistro-like place too.

Sit Around Just Waiting

Yes.. we do buy used systems and games from people who would always first call up and asked how much we would pay for it. Then they said they are coming, but you see .. we really don’t know if they would come, when they are coming or nothing.. there is just no guarantee for anything. But when they do come.. they expect the man to be around.. waiting.. and sitting and doing nothing.. just waiting to buy stuff from them. *slap forehead*

Of course you and I know that it isn’t possible.. and so they get all upset.. because they came with a ride.. usually some angry parents.. of theirs.. and ready to roll .. in just about half a second after they come into the store. So they too get agitated..because they want the money.. and expects me.. to pay them.. or buy stuff from them.. but you see .. i have no buying power. Or lets just say.. i wouldn’t even know how to test the machine.. except for the man.

Customized Labels

Moving shop location can be a real pain, not only is the moving tough and stressful but having to re-label 5000 movies and games is definitely horrid even to think about. Since we do own a video store as you all know it is definitely no joy seeing the man doing it with sheets of 20 labels at a time.

Getting custom label is definitely the solution for us as Label World USA can handle large quantities of labels and they do stick alot better than the generic labels that we get. Plus using a ink jet that we have in our store doesn’t really do well when it comes to long lasting printouts. A small price to pay but heaps of rewards by giving them to the professionals for branding purposes.

17″ Monitor Not Ended

Didn’t buddy told the man that he was going to pay him on Friday…?? Well.. Friday came and went.. and buddy was in today.. and told the man.. he was going to take care of the 17″ monitor .. on Monday. Oh my God..!!! is this ever going to end..??!!!??? $30 !!!! and he can’t pay up..!!!! *slap forehead*

Anyone wants to make a guess . .when is buddy gonna pay up..??

This town or rather some ppl or organization never fails to amaze and amuse me. Why would i pay $15 to attend a luncheon to listen to someone talk about a certain place in the city.. and how they kept that area busy.. clean and comparing it to another part of the city..??

How would our business benefit from it..?? The city is so different from this town.. the ppl here are so different from this town.. the town itself is so different from other town. Shouldn’t we address and nip the problem right here.. and now.. before listening to others.. and how successful they are. We all know what the problem is here.. in this town.. but no one is willing to stand up. .and say.. we see the problem.. lets kick some butts..!  No way am I paying $15, to get laughed at behind our back.. by the speaker.

Socializing & Business

In our kind of business, it is important to do a little socializing and keeping up to date with what is going on around town. I find that one can never go wrong when it comes to giving wine gifts to just about anyone. In fact, these wine gifts need not be expensive at all, if you know what to get. I do love giving wine to not only business associates but also family and friends.

Gas Prices Never Regulated

Drivers are paying more to fill their tanks today in most of the Maritimes. In Yarmouth regular self-serve is selling for A dollar-34.8 cents a litre.

If it ever was… it didn’t benefit us at all. A year or so ago.. we were like paying $1.09 per litre.. ever since they insisted on regulating the gas prices.. it has been nothing but heart pain to everyone. Already it is so hard to keep up with bills.. and food.. yet gas prices never went down. So why did they regulate it..?? for whose sake..?? The standard of living is high.. earnings are low for the ppl.. no wonder .. the younger generation are moving outta this town.  But what do the old farts do..??  they build bigger compounds and building .. to wait for retirement.

New Venture

Business as you all know is getting harder by the day. We scratched our heads to come up with new products to entice the customers. In the beginning, we had a hard time trying to find a niche .. to what we wanted to do with our store.. and finding wholesale products was not easy at all.

Taxi Drivers

I had to hail a taxi this morning.. to go for my doctor’s appt because it was way too early to wake the brat up .. and bundle her up to go to the hospital with me. I wasn’t really in the mood for chatting since i never was a morning person but of all the people i’ve met in my store.. this older lady.. who was driving me to the hospital.. started to tell me about the ridiculous amount of money the town was spending on building those “new offices” .. while the rest of the town.. didn’t really have an opinion.

I fear for our future .. because everyone is so complacent.. and let the town do whatever they want… except for this taxi driver. Businesses are closing down.. right, left and center.. but what is the town doing..?? Surely, these are honest businesses and honest ppl trying to make a living. Surely, they deserved a helping hand..?? Or maybe we should all turn into taxi drivers…?? But that has gotta be hard too.. for gas just went up again.

Handy Man Tools

For those who knows me and my in-laws, you will know how much both my brother-in-law and the father-in-law loves repairing stuff. In fact, I really think it is a hobby for them. But to be really honest, I think the men in the West loves doing things with their hands and you will be amazed at what they can repair again and again.

For handy man like them, they never go buy a whole drill or a whole saw when something goes wrong, they just replace the parts and it’s good to go again. The Selling & Buying

You wouldn’t believed how many people come in to sell stuff at our store these days. With the other video store officially closed now, we see alot more of their customers coming to us.

Usually i donch even bother to listen to the man .. and the seller who wants to sell stuff.. but there are times.. when i cannot but have to intercept .. because certain ppl you know that the things they bring in can be stolen. As much as they would swear high and low.. and on their mother’s grave.. you just can’t buy anything from these ppl.

Some we’ve even caught red-handed selling us stolen stuff.. and when we confronted them.. all they said was.. “oh .. is it..??” and give you the blank look. Yes.. that’s what this town is all about.

The Price Of Being Owner By Association

If I can turn the clock back.. i wouldn’t have agreed for PB to start a business. Why..?? There is a huge price to pay for being owner of your store/business. I had been sick for 2 days now.. but never gotten proper rest.. because i had to either take care of the brat.. and cook 2 meals at least for her.. or be at the store.. for abit.

For the last 8 yrs.. it had been this way. When I had just given birth to the brat.. 3 days after my c-section.. we had to rush outta the hospital.. to the store.. because of incompetent ex-employees.. who wanted to make his own rules. Can you imagine.. just having a major operation.. and i was outta bed.. and back into the store.. sorting things out.. for the employees and customers..??

I think working for someone else.. and going home. .and not worrying about tomorrow.. and collecting my pay check every 2 weeks.. is what i would love to do .. once again. It is often thought that owning your own business.. is glamorous but I tell you it is not. Alot of hardwork.. no appreciation.. plus loads of bills to take care of .. and ungrateful ex-employees to deal with. If I could turn the clock back…………………. *sigh*

 

Event Planners

Being in the hotel industry for a good 15 yrs and thinking back of the many events that the hotel hosted and the many weddings or gala dinner or charity event that I’ve seen celebrated in the hotel, it never fails to humble me. For all the above would not have been possible if not for great event planners.

The co-ordination work, liaising with vendors, catering staff, sound managers and the many other work involved to make any event a success is definitely no easy feat. A Good Man

In our line of business.. we see alot of bad people, so when we see a good fella .. we not only become his friend.. we also learn from him. Being forced to close his business, this good man is not only doing the right thing by his employees but by my standard. He took care of his employees before going outta business . .and that i’ll have to say .. that not many bosses around here do.

He entered his business with dignity .. and he is walking outta it.. with more than dignity intact. The business didn’t work out.. but he left a good name. A Good Man.. !
