An Intriguing Tale Of Being An Owner

A customer was in the store today.. with a few of his friends.. they were looking at an old game system.. and was excited about it. I think he was very interested in buying it.. just because the system was so old. So he was excitedly talking to PB about it… and PB explained to him.. what he had to do.. in order for him to get the machine working.

And guess what he turned around and asked PB…?? Yes.. the ultimate question..! “this thing works eh..??” in which I replied.. “Nah.. we just sell broken stuff”. Muahahahahha!!!

It really doesn’t make sense at all.. !! and with alot of sadness i am writing this. The tri-county regional school board is slashing jobs. 24 teaching positions and 18 jobs at the board’s office. They are doing this they said to maintain a balanced budget. But the teaching positions are so important.. and they shouldn’t be cut at all. We already know that we are not getting enough teachers.. so why this..?? why can’t we save on “other” things.. and not this..?? Does the 24 teaching positions cost 3 million..?? How is this gonna affect our children..? your children..??

For the longest time.. i only talk to the customers when the man isn’t around.. because I really didn’t feel a need to.. as the man was most of the time there.. unless he was out running errands. Of course there are those i chat with.. just because we’ve known each other for so long.

But it is great.. that the man is able to handle the good, bad and ugly.. without my help. I have one such customer that would come in.. and as soon as he hears that PB isn’t around.. he turns around and leave. My kinda customer..!!!

Some mornings are quiet at the store.. but some mornings.. like yesterday .. was so busy.. we could hardly breathe. Sometimes.. i am quite torn in between wanting quiet mornings.. and busy mornings.. at the store. Of course, busy means business.. means money.. but on the other hand.. the brat who goes to work with us.. well… you can imagine her wanting attention too.. at the same time. And with the electrician also coming in .. when we are busy.. you can imagine.. how annoying it gets for me. JOY !!

It is very important that as an employee .. one have to try and stay as healthy as possible. I never really understood why my boss was upset.. when i was sick for a long time. Now that we are bosses ourselves.. we know how important it is .. that the employees stays healthy. For ladies working, they should try using progesterone cream because it helps to relieve some pain during PMS .. that way they don’t have to take sick leave every month.  But how do one tell an employee this.. without offending them..?

When the man tells you that all the bills are caught up.. the fridge is full with food.. and our 2 pantries are also packed with dried and can food and he still had money left in his pocket after getting groceries for the week. When you own your own business.. you know for sure.. that it is a good sign.

It makes us really happy that we pay our bills.. and not owe anyone. What about you ..?? would you prefer to keep the money in the bank. .then to pay up..?? I know of some ppl who are this way.

Register.Com is one of the biggest employers in our town. Yesterday we heard on local radio that it is planning a big expansion .. doubling their current employees in a few more years. At this moment… as I write this.. there are 250 people working full time for them. They also planned to open an office in Halifax area but the government had also stepped in to bait them of course with a huge payroll rebate of nearly 5 million dollars and another 1.05 million for recruiting and training. As compared to other province in Canada .. this town is paid the lowest minimum wage of $8.00. What can I expect ..?? i just hope the town will do well.. for the turnover of businesses .. if continued, would not settle in nicely for the expansion.

Yes.. we do sell surround sounds, amp .. and stuff for give you some good music for your home. I think this was a used set from a customer.. who wanted to trade in this one that was practically new.. because it wasn’t loud enough or something like that. I don’t think any money was involved.. but this one was newer .. and trader in for something older.. but louder.

More stuff for the speakers.. i thinkt he bottom one is the base. Yes.. the man doesn’t like to take in used items of this kind.. but sometimes.. i know he does it.. just because. Well.. he is the boss right..??

We have very little entertainment in this town but paintball is a huge thing here. Boys will be boys.. and they love their toys especially with a little pain. Those little bugger does hurt like hell.. if you get shot. Unfortunately, not many places carry paintball accessories and if they do, they are rather expensive .. since they are the only place in the whole town carrying it.

We had consider carry it.. but it’s a seasonal game… and not a feasible business idea. I read in today’s news that the 18 yrs old actor of the Harry Potter film got stabbed and died during a bar brawl in London on Saturday. It is really sad.. and really not called for. The kid was only 18 yrs old.. with a bright future .. and he died..!

Recently, something similar happened in this town.. the victim didn’t die..but he was bashed up badly too.. the reason unknown till now.. how the fight began. Why do ppl resort to violence so quickly..?? Who is going to be the next victim of senseless beating up and accidental killing..??

I remember a few years ago, we had an incident on the wharf of the town .. whereby some workers were hurt because the bridge collapsed. I know one customer of ours.. had his legs on cast and all.. and couldn’t find a job for a long time.. because of his injury. I had asked him.. what his compensation were.. since he never heard back from his lawyers for a long time. But you see, the reason why his lawyers couldn’t do anything for him..was because he accepted Worker’s compensation. Yup.. ! if you accept worker’s comp, you cannot take legal actions no more.

Rockband, the drumset that is on sale.. and created quite abit of interest. We have kids coming in to play with it all the time. I think it is fine.. as long as the brat doesn’t wanna play with it either.. but when she does.. you know how kids get. But the other kids that comes into our store.. they are quite nice about it and they usually let her be.

Guitars anyone..?? these are not the real guitars.. mind you … they are also for that game.. Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Yes.. they came in one after another.. in fact we have a few more on the other shelf.

We don’t have many baby stores in this town.. and we get everything from the one-stop mall. But like any new parents, we are very careful as to what we buy for our kids in case they are not good enough. It’s always nice to read real reviews from other parents who had used a certain products or patronize certain baby stores and recommend accordingly.

We have some customers.. who are like that Hacking away.. and had the courtesy to tell PB that she wasn’t gonna cough at him.. and pass the germs to him.. and carried on talking for the next 5 mins.. at the counter..!! *slap forehead* ..!! IT’S THE WATER IN THIS TOWN..!!

We get very busy at work at times.. and even though our regular pharmacy is about 10mins drive away, and may not mean alot of time taken for ordinary people. But if you own your own business like us, you know that you do not have the luxury of just taking a short break. Closing the store for 20mins.. is not an ideal situation for us, since we man the store on our own.

I read on the local papers today.. about how everyone wanted a say in where the new building of The Yarc should be. I know there must be more important issues to talk about .. than The Yarc.. ! how come no one is questioning the enormous amount of money spent on the court house. and the new municipality building..?? How come there is no transparency there..?? Where is the money coming and going..?? Pushing the focus to The Yarc to me seems more like a cover up and i certainly give up.

We envy our customers who comes in and inform us about their family vacation in Cancun and I know the man’s extended families goes there on a yearly basis. I kid you not..! And they know the place so well and still goes back yearly because here is always something new .. to do for both the children and the adults.

Winter is the best time for Canadians to go for their trip at Karisma. As a foodie .. i would love to try out their new Gourmet inclusive. The all you can eat.. and different cuisine, I bet all my food blogging friends.. would envy me too. I love the all inclusive package because when you bring the family along for vacation… you don’t have to worry about carrying too much cash or over spending on food, as they are all taken care of. All you have to do .. is to bask in the sun.. and relax, now that’s my kinda vacation.

I do look forward to this airshow.. which i just learned about a few days ago. This town has not hosted an airshow in years. The last one that i went to.. wasn’t spectacular. Scheduled to happen in September.. at the  Airport (finally the airport is being used..!) The Canadian Forces Snowbirds CF-18 Demonstration Team is booked for the show and it’s hoped that the Skyhawks Parachuting Team will also participate. I wonder what this airshow would bring to this town..?? hopefully some tourists.. !
